Harrison Township girl hit and killed by SUV – will be remembered for her creativity and zest for life

HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (KDKA) – An 11-year-old girl killed by the driver of an SUV in Harrison Township was playing with a friend when she was struck, her mother said.

Roxanne Bonnoni was killed Tuesday night after she was struck by the driver of an SUV on Kuntz Street. A makeshift memorial now stands at the spot where she was killed, just steps from her front door.

Neighbors urge drivers to slow down

Amber Bonnoni fought back tears on Wednesday as she spoke about her daughter.

“Not a day or a moment will go by that I don’t think of my daughter,” she said.

“She was 11 years old, a bright, beautiful, caring little girl,” she added. “She loved life, she loved her dog, she loved her sister Abigail. We loved her so much.”

Amber Bonnoni said Roxanne was playing outside with a friend when the driver of the SUV struck them in front of their home on Kuntz Street. Emergency responders tried to save the 11-year-old girl, but she died at the scene.

“My daughter was smart, attractive, strong, she did art, everything,” said the girl’s father, Tony Csizmadia. “I feel dead, I feel out of this world. I can’t describe it. She was my life.”

Roxanne Bonnoni was a student at the DePaul School for Hearing and Speech. School administrators said she was known for her creativity and cheerful spirit.

“She was an integral part of our DePaul family since the age of three, known for her boundless imagination, her love of storytelling and the joy she brought to everyone around her,” the school wrote in a statement.

Kuntz Street residents said speeding has long been a problem, but their complaints have gone unheard.

“People fly here during the day and at night and don’t pay attention,” said neighbor Chris Harcina.

Neighbors are demanding changes, starting with speed bumps along Kuntz Road.

“I just hope the community does something about this because we can’t afford to see any more children getting hurt,” said neighbor Jessica Kelly.

The driver was still at the scene of the accident on Tuesday evening. Police are working with prosecutors to decide whether to press charges against the driver.
