Teenager dies from electrocution after entering family’s RV | US News
A teenager died an unexpected death when she entered her family’s trailer barefoot.
Olivia Bright, 17, walked barefoot into a trailer in her family’s backyard in East Toledo, Ohio, on Sunday evening when the yard was wet from rain, police said. She appeared to have been electrocuted.
Police officers who rushed to the home in the 800 block of Oak Street at 9 p.m. found her in cardiac arrest and with burns to her right hand, WTVG reported.
According to a GoFundMe page for her funeral expenses, Olivia was pronounced dead at 9:40 p.m.
“She passed away unexpectedly from electrocution/heart failure,” Kelly Perry wrote on the page.
“This is extremely hard on our family because we lost her brother to brain cancer in 2019 at the age of 11.”
Olivia’s brother, Brandon James Bright, died in February 2019 at the age of 11 “after a tough battle with brain cancer in his home, surrounded by his family,” his obituary said.
Her mother, Kimberly Bright, told WTVG she was not sure if Olivia died from electrocution and that “Toledo Edison released my power, they released my power.”
Toledo Edison and fire officials told investigators the trailer was unplugged and there were no burn marks on its door, WTOL reported.
“I just want to know how my daughter died,” Kimberly said. “Those are the answers I want.”
The grieving mother added: “It’s hard. Five and a half years ago I buried my son Brandon. He was 11 years old and died of glioblastoma.
“Now I have to go and organize everything for my daughter Olivia.”
Olivia’s family will hold a candlelight vigil for her in Toledo on Wednesday evening at 9:40 p.m. to commemorate the time of her death.
By Wednesday afternoon, the GoFundMe page had already raised over $2,300.
Olivia died about seven months after a six-month pregnant Oregon mother and her boyfriend were fatally electrocuted when a power line fell on their SUV.
