Dancing mothers star Kelly Hyland – mother of daughters Brooke and Paige – has reached an important milestone during her breast cancer treatment.

In a video shared on Instagram on Tuesday, August 20, Hyland, 53, reads from a memorial plaque while holding a rope attached to a bell.

“Ring that bell / Three times, good / It’s a sign that says clearly / My treatment is finished / This course is finished / And I’m on my way!” Hyland said before ringing the bell. “Oops, I rang it four times.”

Hyland recalled that moment in the caption of her post. “Today I got to ring the bell,” she wrote. “That was the end of my first treatment… next steps: surgery, 20 radiation treatments, and 11 more treatments. I DID IT.”

Hyland announced in May that she had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. “The first warning sign was my significant weight loss,” she said E! News at the time. “I had lost so much weight that other people noticed and asked for my diet tips, but I hadn’t changed anything in my daily routine that would have caused the weight loss.”

In March, Hyland scheduled a mammogram after a lump was discovered in her breast.

“I had just had a scan eight months ago and the results were clean,” Hyland explained. “However, this new mammogram and ultrasound were not, they showed a mass.”

After Hyland underwent a biopsy, the mass turned out to be malignant and she was diagnosed with grade 3 invasive carcinoma.

Kelly shared the news with her and her ex-husband Randy Hyland‘s children Brooke (26), Josh (24) and Paige (23) in a phone call that she described as “a very difficult conversation for all of us.”

“I would have loved to tell them in person, but under the circumstances, a phone call was the best thing I could do,” Kelly explained. “I did a one-on-one call with all of my children because I wanted to tell them at the same time and make sure they all got the same information.”
