Fire breaks out on the tenth floor of an apartment block in Sydenham

On 20 August 2024, a dramatic fire broke out on the 10th floor of a block of flats in Sydenham, prompting extensive emergency response and local evacuations. Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters were called to the scene of the fire in Dacres Road at around 3.40pm when reports came in of flames and smoke rising from the building, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed.

A man was safely rescued from the affected apartment using a fire escape hood, which protects against dangerous smoke and gases. After his rescue, he was treated at the scene by the London Ambulance Service.
