The accident occurred early Wednesday morning on Turnpike Street in Stoughton.

A Pennsylvania man died in a traffic accident in Stoughton early Wednesday morning, while a Quincy woman and another man were hospitalized.

Stoughton police and firefighters arrived at the scene around 6:15 a.m. They were told that a black Cadillac and a Toyota Highlander had crashed near 1463 Turnpike St.

Two Pennsylvania men were in the Cadillac while the Quincy woman was driving the Toyota, officials said. All three people involved were taken to Boston Medical Center.

The driver of the Cadillac, 59-year-old Michael Unman of Pennsylvania, was pronounced dead at the hospital. His passenger, whose identity has not been released, suffered serious injuries.

The Quincy woman regained consciousness later Wednesday and has been in contact with medical personnel. She was on her way home from a night shift at a local hotel when the accident occurred, police said. She, too, has not been publicly identified.

No charges have been filed, but investigations into the case by Stoughton Police and State Police are ongoing.

Both cars were towed to a secure facility. One of the vehicles damaged a telephone pole, causing wires to fall onto the road. A portion of Turnpike Street was still closed as of 1 p.m. Wednesday.
