Columbus Crew hosts Philadelphia Union in the Leagues Cup semi-finals

The Columbus Crew hopes to move one step closer to another trophy on Wednesday night when they face the Philadelphia Union at the welcoming Lower.com Field.

After winning the MLS Cup on home soil last year, this is the latest in a series of big home games for the Crew.

ABC 6 spoke exclusively with Apple TV’s lead MLS analyst Taylor Twellman, who says there’s still a lot at stake for the Crew tonight.

If you win the semifinal against Philadelphia, you’ll be in the Concacaf Champions Cup next season. Then you’ll have another chance to win a trophy at home. And make no mistake: Lower.Com Field has hosted some of the greatest moments of late, so you can win a trophy and cement your place in club history.”

A win on Wednesday night would guarantee the Crew a spot in next year’s Concacaf Champions Cup.

If the Crew wins, they will also play in the final on Sunday, facing either Colorado or LAFC.

“I think LAFC would love to get revenge in Columbus and try to get revenge for their performance in the MLS Cup last year,” Twellman said. “I think LAFC has a different mentality – Olivier Giroud, the World Cup winner with France, is now their No. 9. So I don’t think LAFC wants Philadelphia.”
