The Lewes Board of Public Works has lifted the boil water notice issued on Tuesday.

The results of the water sample tests were clear, the committee said in a statement, and residents no longer need to boil their water. However, low water pressure may still occur in some areas near the beach.

The committee first notified residents of possible water contamination on Tuesday morning. A drop in pressure could have led to backflow, the committee’s initial statement said, potentially allowing disease-causing microbes to enter the system. They attributed the drop in pressure to a “possible communication error.”

Later Tuesday, the committee issued an update saying it had discovered a 30-centimeter-long water pipe burst on a line crossing the canal.

The boil water advisory was lifted Wednesday morning after test results came in. The broken pipe is still out of service, which may cause customers in the beach area to experience low water pressure, another statement said.

“A diving team will be on site today to inspect the water main and determine necessary repairs,” the statement said.
