Spencer Steer does something that hasn’t been done in the last decade of Cincinnati Reds history
Earlier this week, Cincinnati Reds all-around player Spencer Steer made fun team history by accomplishing something the organization hadn’t accomplished since 2014.
According to Bally Sports Cincinnati on social media:
Spencer Steer is the first Red with at least 75 RBIs and 20 stolen bases in the same season since Todd Frazier in 2014.
Annie Sabo takes a closer look at Steers’ journey this season with the @Reds
Steer hit 1-for-3 and had a single on Wednesday as the Reds crushed the St. Louis Cardinals 9-2. Although Steer has only a .236 batting average this year, he has been tremendously impactful, playing all over the field and hitting 18 home runs in addition to those RBI and stolen base numbers.
Steer, a former third-round pick of the Minnesota Twins, made his debut in September 2022 and is quickly positioning himself as a key part of the Reds’ young core, which also includes Elly De La Cruz, Matt McLain, Noelvi Marte and Christian Encarnacion-Strand.
Steer has a .409 batting average in his last seven games, and the Reds have gotten back into the playoff race at 60-61. They are just 4.5 games out of the third and final National League wild-card spot with about 40 games left to play.
Cincinnati has a day off on Thursday but will be back in action Friday night when it faces the Kansas City Royals at 6:40 p.m. ET.
Veteran right-hander Michael Lorenzen will pitch for KC, while veteran Nick Martinez will pitch for the Reds.
Kansas City is currently in third place as a wildcard in the American League.
