The La Crosse Area Community Foundation, in collaboration with the DB Reinhart Institute for Ethics in Leadership at Viterbo University, is hosting a special screening of the award-winning documentary film “Join or Die.”

The critically acclaimed film, which premiered at last year’s SXSW Film & TV Festival, is about why you should join a club – and why the fate of America depends on it.

The screening is scheduled for Wednesday, August 21st at 5 p.m. at the Rivoli Theater in La Crosse. Admission and pizza are free, but pre-registration is required at bit.ly/JoinOrDieLAX.

“We’re hosting the screening to spark conversations and inspire our community to take action,” said Jamie Schloegel, CEO of the La Crosse Area Community Foundation. “Joining a club is more than just a social activity. It’s about building social capital – contributing to a sense of belonging, mutual support and collaborative problem solving. This type of capital is integral to the strength and resilience of our community.”

Hailed by film critics as an important, relevant wake-up call with a dash of humor, the feature-length documentary traces the story of America’s social decay over half a century, told from the perspective of legendary social scientist Robert Putnam, whose groundbreaking “Bowling Alone” research into the decades-long decline of community spirit in America may hold the answers to the question of how to create a healthier society.
