Baby swings are associated with deadly safety risks

Safety officials are warning parents about the deadly dangers of certain baby swings sold on Amazon.com by China-based manufacturers.

Parents and caregivers should “immediately stop using DNYSYSJ and OUKANING cradle swings because they pose choking and fall hazards to young children,” says the warning from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

In 2021, an infant death was reported that occurred in a swing with a similar design, including a similar sleeping pad and harness.

“The three-month-old baby was sleeping in the cradle and was then found unconscious,” according to the CPSC warning.

Due to the folds of the segmented sleeping pad and the thickness of the sleeping pad, the swings pose a suffocation hazard.

There is also a risk of falling with the swing because the sides are too low to keep the toddler above the thick sleeping pad.

The warning also highlighted other safety risks, including problems with the occupant restraint system and unintentional folding.

According to the CPSC, the two manufacturers, both based in China, refused to recall the baby swings or offer remedies to consumers.

“The CPSC is urging consumers to immediately stop using the cradle swings and dispose of them. Do not sell or give away these dangerous cradle swings.”
