The Ultimate Fighter 32: Alexa Grasso vs. Valentina Shevchenko, results of episode 12

Alexa Grasso has prevailed against Valentina Shevchenko in the battle for the coaching positions.

Team Grasso Featherweight Mairon Santos (13-1) took the last place in the The Ultimate Fighter 32 Finale with a unanimous decision victory over teammate Guillermo Torres (7-1) in the season finale of the long-running television show. That means three Team Grasso fighters will compete at Saturday’s UFC Vegas 96 event with a UFC contract on the line.

Torres, who fell in his quarterfinal bout, was given a second chance after being called upon to replace Team Bullet’s Zygimantas Ramaska. Before this episode, there were doubts as to whether Ramaska would be medically cleared after his injury in his first fight, and it was ultimately decided that he could not compete.

To make the fight even more controversial, Santos was actually half a pound over the featherweight limit, but was still allowed to take part in the fight as scheduled.

The semifinal bout was tightly contested, with neither fighter able to generate much offensive power in the first two rounds. Santos maintained a slight lead throughout, winning the kicking battle from distance and occasionally landing a hard punch. Torres’ grappling made him a constant threat, however, and he was always looking for an opportunity to knock Santos down, even when the Brazilian was cutting off the cage.

In the end, Santos’ quick-wittedness and aggressiveness were enough to give him the victory and a place in the TUF32 Final of the featherweight tournament.

Santos fights teammate Kaan Ofli (11-2-1) on Saturday, while Grasso’s Robert Valentin (10-3) faces Shevchenko’s Ryan Loder (6-1) to determine the season’s middleweight champion.
