Mother arrested after leaving child in hot car

The CCPD has arrested 33-year-old Hilda Ann Adame in the death of her nearly two-year-old child, who died after being left in a hot car.

According to CCPD Blotter, Adame was taken from the school to the main station for questioning. She was later taken to the City Detention Center for registration, where she was charged with injury to a child, aggravated assault, abandonment/endangerment of a child, and threatening bodily harm.

ORIGINAL: 6:30 p.m., August 20, 2024

The Corpus Christi Fire Department received a call at approximately 1:29 p.m. on Tuesday, August 20, about a child left in a hot car in the parking lot of Tom Browne Middle School on Schanen Boulevard.

When CCFD and CCPD arrived at the scene, they found a school nurse performing CPR on the nearly two-year-old child.

KRIS 6 News confirmed that firefighters took him to Driscoll Children’s Hospital, where he later died.

The CCPD is still investigating the incident, but it is not yet known how long the child was left in the car. Officer Antonio Contreras told KRIS 6 News that the CCPD brought several witnesses to the police station for questioning.

CCISD also released a statement asking for privacy for staff and students and offering counseling services for those who need them.
