Michelle Obama promotes “My Girl Kamala” and has the crowd chanting “Do something” in her fiery speech at the DNC

Michelle Obama thrilled the audience with her speech at the Democratic Party Convention in her hometown of Chicago.

The former First Lady proudly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz, saying she was “one of the most qualified candidates for president” and “one of the most dignified.”

“My friend Kamala Harris is more than ready for this moment,” Obama said.

The former first lady, who recently lost her own mother, invoked the words of Harris’ late mother. “She often told her daughter, ‘Don’t sit around complaining about things, do something,'” she said.

“Do something” became the rallying cry of the Democrats in the audience as she urged the crowd before her husband’s keynote speech.

When it came to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, Obama asked the crowd.

“Who’s going to tell him that the job he’s looking for might be one of those ‘black jobs’?” she said to thunderous applause from the crowd.

Obama added that Trump has long been intimidated by powerful people of color, including herself and her husband.

“For years, Donald Trump has done everything in his power to make people afraid of us. You see, his limited, narrow view of the world led him to feel threatened by the existence of two hard-working, highly educated, successful people who happened to be black,” she said.

“Hope” characterized her husband Barack Obama’s presidential candidacy in 2008, and she told the crowd Tuesday night that she felt that hope at the Chicago Convention Center.

“It’s the contagious power of hope,” she said. “The anticipation, the energy, the elation of once again being on the threshold of a better day.”

“America, hope is returning,” she added.

The former first lady has kept a low profile this election cycle, but this appearance marks her return in a big way. She told the crowd that the last time she set foot in Chicago was to mourn the death of her mother and admitted she was nervous about giving her speech.

Obama again emphasized Harris’ accomplishments and what her presidency would mean for the trailblazing women before her.

“It’s a tribute to my mother, her mother and your mother too,” she said. “It’s up to us to remember what Kamala’s mother told her: ‘Don’t just sit around and complain. Do something.'”
