Follow our minute-by-minute recap of all the action from Season 19, Episode 11 of America’s Got Talent below.

20:02 – For this week’s performances, Terry has given Howie the power of the Golden Buzzer. With this power, Howie can choose one performance of the evening to send directly to the finals.

20:03 – First up was Sofia’s Golden Buzzer pick from the audition rounds, the fiery Argentinian dance group Legión. Tonight, the group set fire to both their boots and hats and brought a drummer on stage, but otherwise very little was put on the line in their second performance in front of the audience. Still a fan, Sofia stressed that they weren’t “really professional, but still so good.” Howie knew he would be booed when he claimed they hadn’t improved their performance. Heidi contradicted him, saying that they were “mucho, mucho caliente” and asked that they bring Sofia on stage when they perform again. Simon said he enjoyed her audition, but was disappointed with her live performance, admitting that she “wasn’t as good as he thought she would be.”

20:15 – Knowing that three magicians have won in previous seasons, Korean artist Young-Min was hoping to be the fourth, but knew that this time they would have to impress Simon to show that they had made progress. After today’s routine ended with a vanishing trick, the judges were left stunned and Terry cut to the commercial…

20:23 – … Heidi said it was “mystical and magical” because he did his magic differently than other magicians. Sofia called it “unexpected” and one of her favorite pieces in AGT history. Simon apologized for not liking his first audition, but said he created “his moment” tonight and believes it will get him through to the next round. Howie agreed, calling him “truly amazing” in large part due to his “attentive and understated” stage presence.

20:25 – Alex. Sampson took a risk to sing an original song in his first audition but was successful and therefore decided to follow Simon’s advice and write another song of his own, aiming to stay “in the style” of the 50s and 60s nostalgia genre. Heidi loved the song and the performance, noting that she thinks “all the girls back home” are just as crazy about him. Sofia called him a star because he is so sure of himself and she is perfect for him. Simon noted that he was “incredibly nervous” and he felt this alongside poor tuning, but he believes that he “came out of nowhere” and created something for himself that was “so clever.” Howie agreed with the others and was proud of his success as a fellow Canadian.

20:36 – Losing a leg to cancer didn’t stop Brazilian breakdancer Bboy Samuka from following his dreams and proving to the world that he’s “not a disabled dancer” but “a dancer”. After thunderous applause from the audience, Howie told Bboy he was “truly incredible”, that he had “raised the bar” and believed he deserved a place in the final. Heidi asked him about the Olympics and Terry revealed that he and Bboy were hanging out in Paris watching the competition. Simon asked the audience to respond again to prove how infectious his performance was, then added that his was “by far” the best act of the night.

20:47 – Brooke Bailey watched last week’s quarterfinals from the audience to study how the other singers handled the stage and to figure out how to approach her own performance this week. After her performance of “Dancing on My Own” tonight, Sofia said that “everything about you tonight was perfect” and “flawless,” but Howie felt that she “didn’t hit the mark tonight.” Heidi was shocked by Howie’s reaction, calling it an “A++ performance” that was “mind-blowing.” Simon honestly admitted that he was bored by the first part of the song, but by the end he could relate to it because she showed how much she wants it.

20:58 – For the next Sky Elements show, we went outside again to see their 1,000 drones take to the night sky to create another impressive light show, with Terry as the ringmaster, Sofia as the trapeze artist, Howie as the magician, Heidi as the flamethrower and Simon pressing the golden button. Simon said it was “truly incredible” because they were the best in their first audition and Sofia wondered how they could even pull off their act with such precision. Howie was impressed by how accurate the judges’ depictions were with the lights.

21:09 – AIRFOOTWORKS are mentored by a former AGT champion and are looking to become the next dance sensation from Japan to make it big in Las Vegas. They promised to do their best tonight and judging by the standing ovation from the judges, they may have done just that. Before making his comment, Simon warned that he was “about to get fired for reaching for the Golden Buzzer, but Howie wasn’t going to give Simon the credit and reached for him first. As he took the stage, Howie told them that they were athletic and creative and more than deserved to go straight to the finals.

21:20 – The three siblings from Biko’s Manna were up next with something they told Simon was “a little different” but “better” than their audition song. After their performance of “I Can See Clearly Now”, Simon said they “make people feel amazing”, Howie admitted he couldn’t stop smiling because they were so infectious as performers, Heidi called them a triple threat and Sofia called it a “beautiful performance”.

21:31 – Sofia’s second Golden Buzzer of the auditions, Schumacher, was a surprise choice, automatically securing the comedy duo a spot in this round. Never thinking they could win the Golden Buzzer and then doing it anyway, they have renewed confidence they can win the show. Simon, who remained unfazed tonight, pressed his red X-buzzer midway through their performance while Sofia dropped her head in her hands. Asked to speak by the other judges, Sofia said she stands by them and would make the same decision again because they are “unique and funny.” Simon said “it was funny the first time” and thought it would “evolve into something great, but it didn’t.” Heidi said it was “so bad it’s good,” and Howie asked her to remember that the message of her performance was friendship.

21:41 – Promising to “do the bare minimum to win,” hybrid Danger Act ballerina Ashlee Montague performed one of the most dangerous acts in history with her attempt to climb a ladder over jugs on ballet pointe and then climb two more at the top of the ladder. Howie was faced with a “dilemma” because he said her act was indeed amazing, but he was torn about whether she changed her act enough this time to make a real step up. Heidi said climbing the ladder was much harder, Sofia called it “ambitious,” and Simon expressed his respect for her because she had no safety net and it really could have gone wrong if she made a mistake.

21:54 – The final act of the night was NiNi, the Chinese guitarist who wowed the crowd at her audition with her incorporation of traditional music with a more modern rock twist. Sofia thought she was amazing tonight and said she loves her personality too. Simon called her “so interesting and so talented” but he said he “hated the song and the track because it should have been an anthem.” Heidi called her “absolutely stunning” and Howie noted that she takes something familiar to a new level, comparing her to Jimi Hendrix.
