Willie Nelson announces new LP “Last Leaf On The Tree” – WXPN

Guess how many albums Willie Nelson has published in his lifetime. Guess what. More than 50? More than 70? Wrong – 152.

At work I was challenged to listen to the entire discography of “Weird Al” Yankovic, starting in the 80s and going forward. I would go insane after a ten-hour shift and still barely make it to this century. I think if there was a similar challenge for Willie Nelson, I might continue to appreciate his music, but I would need at least a 40-hour work week to listen through the discography.

Willie Nelson appropriately releases his 153rd album, Last leaf on the treeon November 1st via Sony. Featuring a mix of originals and covers from various genres, inspired by The Flaming Lips and Nina Simone.

The first single, “Last Leaf,” was released on the 15th. The Tom Waits cover is a perfect fit for Allen, and it’s eerie to hear him sing about his life and career. “They say I’ve got staying power, up here in the tree,” Allen sings. “I’ve been here since Eisenhower, and I’ve even outlived him.”
