There is a government-funded program to eliminate or offset the cost of school meals for eligible families. Families who believe they may qualify should apply for the free and discounted food program. Students in this program receive numerous benefits, starting with a breakfast and lunch menu daily, offered free or at a reduced price.

MORE THAN JUST A MEAL

Did you know that participating in the free and reduced price meal program has benefits beyond breakfast and lunch? Students who qualify for the program in Northwest ISD may be eligible for the following benefits:

  • Eligible for weekend snack packages
  • Assistance with summer camp fees
  • Free school supplies and backpacks at the NISD Back-to-School Fair
  • Eligible to participate in the NISD Angel Tree program
  • Free textbooks for dual credit courses
  • Free OnRamps lessons
  • Discounts on Advanced Placement exam fees
  • Eligibility for SAT and ACT fee waiver

HOW TO APPLY?

Families can Apply online or with a paper application. Online applications are processed fastest and application status is usually available within 48 hours of completion.

Paper applications are available on the NISD website and can be returned via email, fax, or in person at your student’s campus or district food department.

A new application must be submitted each school year. Those previously accepted into the program will have a 30-day grace period to reapply. After 30 days, only students who submitted a new application this school year and qualified for the program will receive free or reduced-price meals. This school year, the 30-day grace period ends on September 25, 2024.
