Could LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller be the NBA’s next best duo?

Could LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller be the NBA’s next best duo?

For an NBA franchise to be successful, it must have at least two stars to build around. Rarely do you see a team carried by one player, or just a roster full of good talent with no star potential. Having two quality players causes so many problems for opposing teams every night because you can’t plan around just one player.

Thankfully, the Charlotte Hornets have been lucky in the lottery in recent years, grabbing two players in the top three: LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. Miller is entering his second season and Ball is entering his fifth. A full, healthy season together could say a lot about the future of this team.

LaMelo Ball is a unique talent. At 6’10”, he is a fluid playmaker with confidence in his three-point shots and a knack for making spectacular passes. Last season, Ball averaged 23.6 points, 8.1 assists and 4.8 rebounds while sharing the court with Miller. Despite his limited time on the court, he ranked in the 91st percentile for assist percentage among NBA guards.

Brandon Miller was a bright spot for the Hornets last season. A 6-foot-1 wing, he’s the type of player teams would love to build around. Miller is a talented shooter inside and outside the three-point line, with a surprising mid-range game and an increase in his ability to create shots. After the All-Star break, he averaged 18.5 points and 1.1 steals, giving Hornets fans hope that he could become a star.

It’s clear that these two top-three picks are the key to the Hornets’ future. With an All-Star playmaker in Ball and a (potential) All-Star shooter in Miller, this duo could make the Hornets a team to watch if they stay healthy and get a little bit of luck. Hornets fans can’t wait to see Ball and Miller play together for a full season like they should. The future of this franchise is in their hands.
