How Abby Lee Miller and Dance Moms Miss Glo are different

Abby Lee Miller told her girls, “Everyone is replaceable.” But I bet she never thought that mantra would be applied to her. Hulu just Dance Moms new era and it is frighteningly similar to its original. But there is a new face in town, Gloria Hampton. Glo knows her way around the world of dance. She currently runs the Bleu Junior Elites, or Studio Bleu, in Ashburn, VA. She has helped many students get jobs on Broadway and has even been a judge on Dance One. And although she was once friends with Abby, this dance teacher seems ready to make her own mark.

Is Miss Glo a copy of Abby Lee Miller?

I’ll be honest. When episode 1 started, I was grabbing my water, but all I heard was Abby’s voice. But when I looked at my screen, I saw the new Dance Mom’s teacher, Miss Glo. Their voices were eerily similar and I had to wonder, “Did Abby get plastic surgery?” The more I watched the new season, the more I felt like Miss Glo and Ms. Abby were cut from the same cloth. Of course, some things would always stay the same in the reboot. For example, the ever-crumbling pyramid at the beginning of each routine is still standing.

Miss Glo has a favorite

The favoritism Abby showed to Maddie Ziggler in the original series was incredible. Abby would yell at the rest of the dance team and then talk nicely to Maddie. It didn’t matter that Miss Glo also seemed to have her own favorite when it came to Audrey Brudner. But I would expect to be her favorite too if she lived in my basement. Unlike Abby and Maddie’s mother Melissa Gisoni, Aurdrey’s mother Tammi and Glo are best friends.

Both Maddie and Audrey have been the lead actresses in most of the competition dances. And both have real dancing careers. Maddie got her 15 minutes of fame on SIA and Audrey was in Music Man with Hugh Jackman. So it made sense to make a comparison. And like mothers, a dance teacher will always have her favorite dancer. However, neither Abby nor Glo could hide their inability to favor their star student.

There is a significant difference between Abby Lee Miller and Miss Glo

Although these two women have similar characteristics in some ways, they are also very different teachers. Abby seemed to scream just for the sake of screaming, to scare young children. However, Miss Glo seems to have a reason when she speaks in a raised voice. She is a strict teacher who genuinely wants to improve her students. Although Miss Glo screams, she is undoubtedly nicer to the dancers.

The verbal abuse we saw with Abby isn’t as severe in Dance Mom’s New Era. Miss Glo said it herself in the introduction: “I can make these kids stars, and I can do it without them resenting me in 10 years.” I’ve been keeping an eye on Glo, as some of her criticisms have raised dark orange, almost red flags. However, compared to Abby, she’s still better at hiding her disdain when she has any. I’ve seen signs of manipulation, especially when she cried and told the moms, “I’ll take the blame.”

Glo Hampton was also a dance mother

One stark difference is the fact that Glo was right where the other moms were sitting. The dance teacher told Decider, “I put my daughter in a place where she could have a career dancing and doing what she loves. It’s not always easy to navigate. Forty years of being a dance mom is not easy. But there comes a point where you have to enforce the rules and say, ‘You have to trust me and I have the best interests of all the kids in mind.'” Glo also admits that she certainly “has a different teaching style than her predecessor. And I think that shows that I’m tough, I’m absolutely tough. I just get results in a different way.”

Although Glo and Abby are good friends, the original was not thrilled about the Studio Bleau teacher being cast. But Glo will put her own stamp on the reboot and will definitely bring Dance Mom’s New Era out of the ALDC’s shadow.
