Bill Milburn, member of the Conway School Board, dies


Bill MilburnConway school board member and retired police major has died.

He was 72.

“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our school board member,” the Conway School District said in a statement Tuesday.

“Mr Milburn was a valued member of the Conway School Board since March
2024, and he also served during a previous term from October 2022 to May 2023,” the district added. “Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and the entire CPSD community during this time of grief. Mr. Milburn’s dedication and contributions will be remembered with deep appreciation.”

The First Church of the Nazarene in Conway had previously shared the news of Milburn’s death on Facebook on Sunday evening.

In a separate article Republican Party of Arkansas said Milburn’s funeral would be held Sunday afternoon, August 25, at the Nazarene Church in Greenbrier.

Milburn was last elected to the board in March to represent Zone 5. He was absent from the board’s August 13 meeting when Board Chairman Dr. David Naylor Jr.asked those present to “keep Bill Milburn in their prayers.”

“He is going through health issues. He is an important part of this board and we value him,” Naylor said.

According to an online obituary, Milburn leaves behind his father, wife and two children.

Trey GeierThe board member who lost his seat to Milburn in March wrote on Facebook: “Regardless of our differences, I recognize and respect his commitment to public service and the Conway Public School District. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

This development means that the Board will shortly appoint an interim member and a full-time replacement may be elected at a later date.
