SOULSKIN presents the world premiere of the new dance BEAUTY, created by SOULSKIN dance artist and choreographer Adrianna Thompson. BEAUTY is a psychological ballet in six movements that shows how humanity must go beyond the forces at work in the world to restore its own divine power and concept of true beauty.

“Given the current state of our country, it is more important than ever to challenge the status quo. We cannot accept that society’s perspective is more important than our own and must evolve and stop seeking validation based on ever-changing standards. Social media plays a huge role in this, amplifying our thirst for validation and forcing us to post selective images out of fear of judgement,” says Thompson. “BEAUTY reveals our need for human connection and how we must be our own compass in a world full of noise and chaos.”

Thompson explains that with the heated election season approaching, “we must not give in to the pressure of the media and allow it to dictate what we think and how we behave. It is crucial that we all work to find the perfect combination of spirituality, harmony and balance that reveals inner beauty.”

Thompson points to her collaborators who play a key role in the realization of this work. Iwalani Kaluhiokalani, a Boston-based multidisciplinary artist, uses projection mapping to create a three-dimensional art installation; Los Angeles-based dance and film costume designer Cathy Cooper designs the distinctive, unpredictable and magical costumes for BEAUTY; Roxy Roller composes the music (his fifth collaboration with Adrianna Thompson); and Mike Inwood handles the lighting of the work to illuminate beauty in all its forms.

Dance artists participating in these performances include Andrea Dusel-Foil, Alexandra FitzGibbon, Federico Garcia, Erika Hassan, Barbara Koch, Kennyth Montes De Oca, Leslie Plummer, Sophia Rumasuglia, Robert M. Valdez, Jr., Dianna Warren and Oren Yaari.
