The nine-year-old girl who died along with her five-year-old brother when she was hit by a double-decker bus was nine-year-old Ada Bicakci.

She died in hospital on Monday afternoon, August 5, two days after she was hit by the car in Bexleyheath, south-east London.

Little Ada’s organs were donated and used to help six other children, police announced today.

The sweet girl had once cut off her long hair to donate it to charity and was described as an avid gymnast and swimmer.

The male driver of the bus was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs. He was released on bail pending further investigations and is now due to be arrested in early November.

Her younger brother was taken to hospital as a precaution but has since been released. At the time of the accident, both were with a family member.

Ada lived near the accident site and attended a local elementary school.

She was a Turkish-British citizen and also attended a Turkish school in the area.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed that she will have a funeral with representatives of several faiths.

The investigation into the collision is ongoing and police are still appealing for witness statements.

They said: “On Saturday 3 August, at 9.05am, police were called to Watling Street, near the junction with Halcot Avenue, following reports that a bus carrying two children had collided.”

“Ada was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service with life-threatening injuries.”

“Despite all the efforts of the medical staff, she unfortunately died on the afternoon of August 5th.”

“A five-year-old boy was also taken to hospital as a precaution. They were with a family member at the time of the collision.”

The investigation is being led by detectives from the Metropolitan Police’s Roads and Transport Policing Command.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: “Any witnesses to the collision who have not yet spoken to police are asked to call 101 quoting reference CAD 2309/03AUG.”
