“No child sleeps on the floor in our city!”: Wulfenstein raises $5,000 for beds

“In our city no child sleeps on the floor!”

This is the mission of Sleep in Heavenly Peace, a national organization dedicated to providing beds for children who don’t have them, and local construction crews from Pavement Recycling Systems Holdings Inc. (PRS) have been happy to support this mission.

Sleep in Heavenly Peace understands the impact a safe, comfortable bed can have on a child’s development, which is why Sleep in Heavenly Peace is 100% volunteer-run and donates money to fulfill its mission. In the Pahrump Valley, Nye County, Sleep in Heavenly Peace has been actively pursuing this mission for several years, starting with chapter founder Gary Bennett and continuing today under the leadership of chapter president Carmen Murzyn.

Thanks to the generosity of PRS’ Wulfenstein Construction Crew, the Nye County branch of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is now thousands of dollars richer. This money will be used exclusively to build and equip new beds for children in Pahrump and the surrounding communities.

“The PRS Holdings Foundation was created by the employee owners of PRS Holdings, Inc., an employee-owned company. The focus of the foundation is to support the communities where we live and work and to help those in need. PRS employee owners have strong ties to our local communities and are committed to making a positive impact,” Steve Concannon, president and CEO of PRS, told the Pahrump Valley Times.

“In Pahrump, our Wulfenstein Construction team raised $5,000 to support individuals in Nye County,” Concannon continued. “Many of our employee-owners in the area have young children, and when they learned of the need for beds and blankets in the community, Wulfenstein employees supported the cause.”

Murzyn and her team were obviously thrilled with the donation. “This is so, so wonderful, it will help us a lot so that we can continue to help the children in our town,” Murzyn noted. “Thank you to the Wulfenstein crew, you are all amazing.”

And PRS’s support for Sleep in Heavenly Peace doesn’t end with the donation. Concannon noted that the nonprofit’s Wulfenstein construction team will also be helping with a huge undertaking next month.

Bunks across America

“In addition to providing a grant to Sleep in Heavenly Peace, these employees will also volunteer at the Bunks Across America event in September and assist Sleep in Heavenly Peace with its goal of building 8,000 beds across all of its branches. We believe it is critical to contribute, not only through financial assistance, but also by offering our time to the Nye County community,” Concannon said.

Bunks Across America is a nationwide mobilization of all of Sleep in Heavenly Peace’s many branches, where volunteers come together for a single day to build for the cause. The result is thousands of brand new bed frames, and the Nye County branch’s goal is to have about two dozen of those thanks to their local effort.

As chapter members emphasize, anyone can get involved with Bunks Across America, regardless of age or experience. Past events have included volunteers ranging in age from four to over 80.

“You don’t need any construction skills, we’ll train you right on the spot! You can use your existing skills or learn new ones while helping do something really great for the children in our community,” encouraged Murzyn.

Bed set-up for the Nye County Sleep in Heavenly Peace Bunks Across America event will take place on Saturday, September 14th at 9:00 a.m. at 2731 Woodchips Road.
