Patriots strengthen their defense with Kobe Jones and Christian McCarroll
The Patriots signed defensive end Kobe Jones and defensive lineman Christian McCarroll. They also claimed wide receiver Matt Landers off waivers and placed wide receiver JaQuae Jackson on the injured list.
In addition, according to a league source, the Patriots are one of several teams interested in veteran offensive lineman Dennis Daley, who was released by the Cardinals on Monday.
Daley, 28, who started 15 games at left tackle for Tennessee in 2022, has played both guard and tackle throughout his NFL career. The 6-foot-6, 315-pound player has played with the Panthers, Titans and Cardinals during his five-year career.
Jones, a 6’4″ and 265 lb player, has played for the Falcons, Dolphins, Titans, Packers and Panthers. The 26-year-old most recently played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
McCarroll is a 6’4″, 250-pound undrafted free agent out of Grand Valley State. During his college career, he had 151 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss, 15 sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Landers, 25, is 6’4″ and weighs 200 pounds. He entered the NFL in 2023 as a rookie free agent from Arkansas. He played for the Seahawks, Panthers and Browns and also spent time in the UFL. In 2022, he made 47 pass catches for 901 yards and 8 touchdowns with the Razorbacks.
Jackson was injured last week in the preseason loss to the Eagles. The 6’1″, 185kg player caught one pass for 38 yards (which resulted in a touchdown) in two preseason games.
According to a league source, the Patriots also had former Boston College linebacker Max Robert in training. The 6’1″, 250-pound Robert played with Memphis in the UFL last season and had 4.5 sacks for the Showboats. In 2020, he had 4.5 sacks and six tackles for loss in 10 games as a defensive end with BC.
