Falcons release final preseason depth chart before roster cuts

The Falcons released their final 2024 preseason roster on Tuesday, and I won’t give too much away here:

New defensive linemen Justin Simmons and Matthew Judon are listed as second-team players behind safety Richie Grant and outside linebacker Arnold Ebiketie.

I wouldn’t read too much into it. I think Judon’s recent comments about his contract and his future with the Falcons suggest why.

“The Atlanta Falcons don’t know anything about me as a football player, as a person or anything,” Judon said. “They only know my history so far. I can’t ask for or ask for something I haven’t worked for, and that’s what I’ve done my whole life. I’m going to work for it.”

Additionally, Will McFadden of AtlantaFalcons.com said that the two new additions have not had much opportunity to settle into their new team.

Outside linebacker Matt Judon and safety Justin Simmons joined the team for their first practice on Monday, but they have practiced relatively lightly and are still acclimating. Perhaps that attitude is affecting their status in the rankings.

Raheem Morris said after the first preseason game that DeMarcco Hellams will be out “significantly” due to the ankle injury he suffered against the Dolphins. We haven’t heard a more specific timeline since then, but Hellams hasn’t been placed on the injured list either, which is probably a good sign. Hellams currently sits third on that safety depth chart, behind Richie Grant and Justin Simmons.

What do you think about the rankings? Do you have a prediction about which players are in danger of getting a place in the squad? Talk about it in the comments.
