Turbulent start to the college football season for Delaware State

The 2024 College Football The season starts turbulently for the Delaware State Hornets. The team reportedly missed its flight to Hawaii just days before its opening game!

The Hornets were scheduled to fly out of JFK Airport in Queens, which could be a three- to five-hour drive from Dover when traffic is good. IAD in Washington DC is closer but offers only one weekly nonstop flight to Honolulu.

JFK has several direct flights daily, which is probably the reason for choosing the airport. Unfortunately, there was a “mess” on the roads before arrival, which caused a big problem!

A Delaware State spokeswoman confirmed that the Hornets missed today’s 10.5-hour flight to Honolulu due to a breakdown on the bus to JFK Airport. “We are working on a plan,” she said. DSU and @HawaiiFootball Saturday open season.

What the problem was is unclear, but it caused a delay even though kick-off was only five days away.

The Hornets are already down by five touchdowns. They couldn’t have needed any more adversity!

Fortunately, the missed flight doesn’t seem to have to set the team back too far in terms of arrival time. Brandon Marcello of 247 Sports reports that new accommodations have been provided and that Delaware State will land in Hawaii tomorrow.

Delaware State has rebooked its trip and will “still arrive in Hawaii on time tomorrow,” a DSU spokeswoman said. 247 Sports/CBS Sports. Delaware State and Hawaii play Saturday in Week 0. DSU has built an “extra day” into its travel plans “just in case” of a problem.

Delaware State and Hawaii will help kick off the 2024 college football season with a Week 0 showdown on Saturday night. The Rainbow Warriors finished 5-8 last season despite winning three of their final four games, including an upset win over Air Force.

Delaware State, meanwhile, reached a record of 1-10.

The game is scheduled to kick off at 11:59 p.m. ET and 5:59 p.m. local time in Honolulu. Hopefully the Hornets won’t run into any more travel problems!
