The body of the yacht cook, identified by Reuters as Antiguan national Ricardo Thomas, was found near the ship on August 19.

Thomas was an inspiration to young black children who wanted to enter the world of sailing, his friend Eli Fuller told the BBC.

“The kids saw all these white people working on yachts,” Fuller added. “For them, it was important for our community to see an Antiguan man traveling all over the world.”
