Young woman hit by dump truck after scooter accident near Gulistan-i-Jauhar – Pakistan

A young woman died on Tuesday when her scooter skidded on Karachi’s uneven Rashid Minhas Road near Jauhar Mor, resulting in a collision with a dump truck due to poor road conditions.

Deputy Inspector General of Transport (DIG) Ahmad Nawaz Cheema said Dawn.com that 23-year-old Sara Iqbal was riding from Nipa Bridge towards Drigh Road when her scooter skidded on the uneven road near Sunny Pride Apartments on Rashid Minhas Road in Gulistan-i-Jauhar.

“A dump truck (TKM-214) drove over her from behind and she died on the spot,” said Cheema Dawn.com.

He said the driver fled the scene of the accident and abandoned the vehicle, which was subsequently handed over to Sharea Faisal police for investigation.

Cheema added that potholes had formed on Rashid Minhas Road and several roads across the metropolis due to the rain.

“The dilapidated road infrastructure after rainfall not only hinders the smooth flow of traffic but also leads to traffic accidents,” said the head of the traffic police.

He added that traffic police were filling holes/ditches all over the roads.

“We are trying to make the roads motorable on our own after rains,” said DIG Cheema.

The dangers of deteriorating road conditions were highlighted at a medical conference in November 2023. It was revealed that every day in Karachi, about 500 people, mostly motorcyclists, sustain injuries in road accidents and are taken to emergency rooms for treatment.
