Noah’s nightmare amid NINETEEN fails while Bobby V stands tall

After a positive start under Joe Schmidt with three consecutive wins against Wales and Georgia, the Wallabies were brought back down to earth with a thud against the Springboks in Brisbane.

Few expected – or even hoped – for an upset, but the 33-7 defeat to the world champions showed just how far behind Australian rugby still is. And with Argentina shocking the All Blacks, they are in danger of finishing last in the Rugby Championship.

The disastrous afternoon was reflected in your official DIY player ratings, which we collected straight after the game: only four players received an average rating above 5 from the Roarers (and one of those, Tom Lynagh, was mainly because, having come on as a substitute in the last 20 minutes, he didn’t have enough time to influence the game, either positively or negatively).

At the bottom of a dismal pile was Wallabies link-up Noah Lolesio, who came under scrutiny after another poor performance which earned him an abysmal average rating of just 3.27.

However, he was far from alone: five other Australians joined him in the under-4 group, including captain Allan Alaalatoa, fellow prop Isaac Kailea, hooker Matt Faessler and defender Tom Wright.

Of the four players who received passing grades, Rob Valetini stood out: Bobby V was a bright spot in a dark era for the Wallabies. With an average grade of 6.26, he was clearly the best of the bunch. Lock Nick Frost’s spirited performance was the next best.
