Vehicle telematics company Ituran Location and Control has partnered with Microsoft and Porsche to bring real-time data telemetry technology to the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup. This collaboration leverages real-time data collection, transmission and cloud-based analytics, enabling racing teams to optimize their performance during races.

The Porsche Carrera Cup is a motorsport series for Porsche sports cars, with a focus on Porsche 911 GT3 cars. All participating cars are identical, so success depends largely on the skill of the driver and the strategy of the team and its engineers.

The partnership enables live telemetry from all racing cars. This is collected and transmitted in real time to the Microsoft Azure cloud via the public mobile network. This is done via an Ituran telematics device that is installed and inductively connected to the Porsche sports car’s data network.

The data enables Porsche engineering teams to make quick, informed decisions during races. The technology also allows teams to increase safety by diagnosing vehicle malfunctions during the race, preventing damage to the cars and potential injuries to the drivers.

Eyal Sheratzky, CEO of Ituran, said: “We see the transformative impact of this technology on the Porsche Carrera Cup by enabling race teams to make key strategic decisions in real time through instant, data-driven insights that can determine the outcome of a race. This project reflects our vision for the future, where we continuously innovate for the connected car and integrate the latest technologies into Ituran’s products and services. We are looking to leverage the new capabilities developed for this project across our entire business now.”

The technology was tested throughout the 2023 season in Brazil and is currently fully operational in Brazil, Argentina and Portugal for the current 2024 season of the Porsche Carrera Cup.

“We are incredibly proud to be part of this groundbreaking initiative and to be working with leading car manufacturer Porsche as well as world-leading software company Microsoft. In addition, motorsport represents the spearhead of what is possible in 2024 and the fact that Ituran technology is at the heart of the telemetry system for Porsche race cars underlines our technological leadership,” added Sheratzky.
