Girl Scout designs musical play area in daycare center as Gold Award project

CLARKSVILLE, TN – Kayla Saelens, a senior Girl Scout from Clarksville Troop 571, presented her Gold Award-winning “Take Action Project” under the leadership of Karlene Brown on Saturday.

Kayla’s passion for music resonates in her enchanting musical play area, made from common objects at multiple playground stations. She spent over 160 hours alone planning and developing her project to ensure its accuracy and sustainability while stimulating many areas of child development. This project provides social interaction, collaboration, and learning while bringing together friendships, fun, and togetherness; it is sure to turn every child into a music lover. This project is an example of leadership and her exceptional commitment to her community. She saw a need in her community, took action, and made a difference.

Kayla’s project, “Big Beats for Little Feet,” is located at the Red Barn Child Care Center and Preschool in Sango.

Their mission at The Red Barn is to love, teach and positively influence the children who spend time at their facility. They believe that children learn in many different ways and that they learn best through “playing and doing.” A huge thank you to Jeremy and Jessica Kelley, the owners of The Red Barn, for allowing Kayla to share her love of music with children for years.

Kayla was honored to introduce the Little Beats for Little Feet initiative to make a difference in the community, one child at a time.
