Porsche’s Sim Racing factory team starts at the Esports World Cup
In the team rankings, the Porsche Sim Racing Team travels to Saudi Arabia in third place. The EWC opening event is the finale of the sim racing premier class, ESL R1.
Drivers Championship
Joshua Rogers is travelling to Riyadh as a hot favourite. Last November, the Australian won the final of the ESL R1 Fall Series in Jönköping, Sweden. As the newly crowned ESL R1 champion, he goes into the EWC with a points advantage. The best nine drivers in the championship move directly into the final round. Rogers’ teammates Charlie Collins from Great Britain, Dayne Warren (Australia) and Mitchell deJong (USA) are among the twelve participants in the so-called 2and-Chance round for the last three places in the offline final. There, participants can win a prize pool of 100,000 US dollars (approx. 90,700 euros). The winner receives 25,000 US dollars (approx. 22,700 euros).
Team Championship
Starting Friday, the Porsche Coanda Esports Racing Team will be fighting for the team title. This comes with a total prize money of 400,000 US dollars (approx. 363,000 euros), of which 170,000 US dollars (approx. 154,000 euros) are prize money. Just over a year ago, the factory team won the team competition at the Gamers8 Festival, the predecessor event to the EWC, at the same location. Twelve highly professional esports organizations are taking part in the competition, which ends on Sunday. Porsche achieved third place in the ESL R1 team championship – and thus has a promising starting position for the world championship.
E-sports highlight of the year
With 23 different eSports competitions in eight weeks, the EWC is the largest public event of its kind. The event began on July 3 and ends next Sunday. It will be held in a 60,000 square meter event center that consists of four separate eSports arenas. Across all disciplines, the prize pool is over 60 million US dollars.
Nina Braack (Esports Manager Porsche Motorsport): “Our drivers have collected enough points in ESL R1 to fight for the titles in the EWC. Joshua Rogers has even qualified directly for the final round as the new ESL R1 champion. Last year we won the team competition at the Gamers8 event in Riyadh. In Jönköping, Sweden, Josh won the ESL R1 fall final. We have once again prepared meticulously for the upcoming tournament. We feel well prepared and are determined to win.”
