The new series reveals the dark side of Greek Row and its impact on some of those involved.

Each episode provides a firsthand account of how the power, control and secrecy of fraternities can create a cult-like dynamic that creates an environment in which nefarious activities – from drug abuse to sexual assault – can thrive, A&E’s series description says.

Houses of Horror: Secrets of College Greek Life features exclusive interviews with those involved, including former fraternity members, family members, police officers and experts. The episodes will detail how these organizations that seemingly offer acceptance and community to young people have far-reaching consequences that can become dangerous and even deadly.

In six episodes, the series provides a first-hand look at the dark side of fraternity life at universities across the country.

The stories include a freshman at the University of Missouri who was bullied into drinking such large amounts of alcohol that he nearly died; a third-year student at the University of Minnesota who fought back against the Greek system after being brutally raped by a brother in her fraternity; and a shocking series of overdose deaths at San Diego State University, according to A&E.

The series will also explore the infamous machine at the University of Alabama, which is deeply rooted in the racist traditions of the Old South.

According to an A&E description of one of the new episodes, “Hazed to Death,” a 911 dispatcher received an urgent call from the Beta Theta Pi house at Penn State in February 2017. The call said that freshman pledge Tim Piazza was unconscious and had not moved. He was forced to lie down during an initiation ritual called
“The Gauntlet” and then fell down the basement stairs. When a fraternity member inside pleaded with his brothers to get help, they pushed him aside to protect the fraternity, even if it meant a delay in getting help, A&E wrote.
