Hacking tool Flipper Zero receives ESP8266 deauther add-on for Wi-Fi security and research

PCB Studios has just released the Flipper Zero ESP8266 Deauther adapter board for Flipper Zero, which allows users to perform deauthentication attacks on WiFi networks. This board runs a modified version of SpacehuhnTech’s ESP8266 Deauther software and has a set of actions for testing 802.11 wireless networks. Its main function, deauthentication, sends deauthentication packets to the target network and disconnects devices from their 2.4GHz WiFi networks.

In our last post about Flipper Zero, we wrote about Flipper Add-On CANBus, a CAN bus hacking tool that can sniff, send and log CAN bus packets. In addition, we saw similar tools like the M1 Multitool and HackBat, which can be considered as Flipper Zero alternatives using STM32H5 and Raspberry Pi RP2040 MCUs and Wi-Fi connectivity. We also wrote about various ESP8266 and ESP32 based deauther tools, such as the DSTIKE Deauther Watch X, the Cheap Evil Tech Deauther Board and the ESP32 Marauder Pocket Unit v2, all of which are wireless penetration devices. Feel free to check them out if you are interested in these topics.

The board can be considered a GPIO board and on top of this board sits a standard ESP8266 Node MCU module. So there is the option to buy just the board or the board with a Node MCU ESP8266 module soldered on it.

PCB Studios mentions that you need the Flipper Zero app to use this board, but if you’re using firmware like Rougemaster or Xtreme, the application is pre-installed. Otherwise, you’ll need to follow the instructions on GitHub to install the app. As far as I know, there’s no way to install the app through Flipper’s app store.

This software allows you to easily perform numerous actions to test 802.11 wireless networks, including scanning, attacking, packet monitoring, and more, making it a versatile tool for penetration testing applications.

The Flipper Zero ESP8266 Deauther costs about $24.98 with the ESP8266 module soldered and $19.99 without the soldered module. Both boards are available from the Tindie store.
