DLF trainee Kartik Singh in the Junior Presidents Cup International squad

DLF Academy intern Kartik Singh has been named along with 10 others as a participant in the upcoming Junior Presidents Cup, which will be held following the seniors event next month in Montreal, Canada, the PGA Tour, which created and hosts the biennial event, said on Wednesday.

Kartik, 14, is currently ranked number one in the world amateur golf rankings under 15 and has a number of notable international successes to his name, including victories at the Singapore Junior Open (U19) this year, the IMG Academy Junior World Championship in San Diego and the Asian Junior Masters in Thailand, which he won for the third time earlier this season.

He finished sixth at the 2024 R&A Junior Open in Scotland, was the youngest player in last year’s US Junior Amateurs, is competing in the 2023 Asia Pacific Amateur Championship in Melbourne, Australia, where he was the youngest to make the cut at the challenging Royal Melbourne Golf Club, and at 14, is India’s highest-ranked amateur.

Singh is part of the team named by national team captain Graham DeLaet and led by China’s Xihuan Chang, who tops the list of top 10 qualified players according to WAGR at number 37. Also in the team are two players returning from the 2022 squad: Rayhan Abdul Latief of Indonesia and Joshua Bai of New Zealand.

The international team consists of eight countries, with China, Vietnam and Thailand each represented by two players. DeLaet has selected Samuel Gonzalez of Colombia as his captain, the PGA Tour said in a statement.

“I am honoured to be the captain of this team and have so many quality players available for my captaincy selection,” said DeLaet. “There are so many players who would be deserving and simply selecting the next player, Samuel Gonzalez, seemed the most logical and fair way to go. I am also excited to have a Quebec native, Antoine Jasmin, on our team. I am confident that with the 10 automatic qualifiers, Samuel and the final spot to be awarded in a few weeks, our team will be incredibly competitive. I look forward to getting to know all 12 of these young men and spending what I hope and believe will be a week they will never forget!”

The 12th and final spot on the team will be awarded to the leading player on the WAGR list as of September 5, 2024, who is not otherwise qualified. In the event of a tie, the highest-ranking individual on the previous WAGR list will decide the selection.

The national players: Xihuan Chang (China), Nguyen Anh Minh (Vietnam), Rayhan Abdul Latief (Indonesia), Thanawin Lee (Thailand), Joshua Bai (New Zealand), Kartik Singh (India), Le Khanh Hung (Vietnam), Liangliang Gu (China), Warut Boonrod (Thailand), Antoine Jasmin (Canada) and Samuel Gonzalez (Colombia).

Team USA: Miles Russell, Tyler Watts, Blades Brown, Pennson Badgett, Asher Vargas, Luke Colton, Will Hartman, Ronin Banerjee, Tyler Mawhinney, Jackson Byrd, Logan Reilly (Captain’s Selection).

The teams were announced by the Presidents Cup and the American Junior Golf Association. The fourth edition of the Junior Presidents Cup begins on September 22 at Le Club Laval-sur-le-Lac – Blue Course in Montreal, four days before the 2024 Presidents Cup begins at the nearby Royal Montreal Golf Club.

The Junior Presidents Cup is a two-day team competition involving the top 24 juniors aged 19 years or younger. Players come from the USA and the international team from around the world (excluding Europe). The competition was created to give the world’s best non-European juniors the opportunity to compete in an international team competition and to demonstrate the global reach of junior golf.

The U.S., led by Charley Hoffman, includes 2023 Rolex Junior Player of the Year and No. 1 Miles Russell of Florida, Blades Brown of Nashville, Tennessee, 2023 team member Tyler Watts of Alabama, Jackson Byrd of Georgia and captain candidate Logan Reilly of Virginia.

“During the selection process for the best juniors to represent the United States, I wanted to see the culmination of my work,” Hoffman said in the statement. “He had one of the most consistent summers of golf ever and narrowly missed automatic eligibility. I am excited to welcome Logan Reilly to the U.S. Junior Presidents Cup team.”
