10-year-old boy dies after falling ill at trampoline park in Rutherglen

A 10-year-old boy has died after falling ill at a trampoline park in South Lanarkshire.

Police Scotland confirmed the alarm was raised shortly before 11am at Flip Out on Southcroft Road in Rutherglen.

The boy was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow, where he was pronounced dead.

His death is considered unexplained, but police said there were no suspicious circumstances.

A Police Scottish spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing after a child became ill at a property on Southcroft Road, Rutherglen, shortly before 11am on Sunday 18 August 2024.”

“The child, a 10-year-old boy, was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was pronounced dead.”

The spokesman added that Glasgow City Council had been informed.

The Flip Out venue has been closed since the boy’s death.

In a statement on social media, Flip Out said it was “cooperating fully with Police Scotland in their investigations.”

A spokesman added: “We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and our deepest condolences go out to the child’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

The venue is a 5,283 m² indoor play center with more than 34 trampolines.

Facilities also include go-kart tracks, a soft play area and a donut slide.
