Gardener presents groundbreaking solution for effortless weed removal without tools: “It really is that easy”

Weeds have a pretty bad reputation. Learning to work with weeds instead of against them can change your life. And a gardener is here to show you how.

The shovel

Seb (@solitary.acres), permaculture gardener and TikToker, explains to his followers how to do it. “It’s actually that simple,” he wrote in the caption.

In the video, Seb shows a huge weed bed in the garden and suggests that most people’s instinct is to grab a shovel and get to work. But there’s a better way.

Seb says the first step is to push the weeds down to the ground, then cover them with compost and add mulch.

The mulch blocks the sun, killing the annual weeds and preventing them from germinating, while also creating a new bed of soil. Seb points out that this trick won’t work for weeds with rhizomes or perennial weeds like Bermuda grass. Putting cardboard over Bermuda grass is recommended.

“I look at it and I see fertility. I see biomass that was just grown for me,” says Seb. “Instead of seeing this as a problem, you actually see it as a solution.”

How it helps

Gardening and growing your own food saves money, reduces waste, and literally brings joy. A study from the University of Colorado found that people who garden are happier than those who don’t because they eat more fiber and get more physical activity.

So if you see someone in their garden and they look happier than ever, it’s because they really are. There’s so much to smile about when you have a garden. Not only will your food taste better, but it will also be healthier because you can grow your fruits and vegetables without harmful pesticides and fertilizers commonly used in mass-produced farms.

You can eat with a calming sense of serenity. This explains why a study from Singapore found that people who have a garden are more optimistic and have higher self-esteem. Mental health and good food are the keys to success.

Gardening is rewarding in many ways. It also reduces demand for store-bought produce that is problematically packaged and travels thousands of miles, leaving a trail of dirty energy resources in its wake. Gardens have always been a source of pride, but it doesn’t always have to be about how green they are. Start growing them today.
