If you haven’t been drinking this grape cocktail all spring and summer long, you’ve been missing out. Whether you’re a golfer, married to one, or just know someone who loves to play golf, chances are you’ve experienced a Classic Transfusion.
This popular drink is perhaps most commonly enjoyed on the golf course, but it’s a crowd favorite far beyond the greens, too. If you’ve ever had one of these refreshing cocktails, you’ll know why it’s our favorite cocktail of 2024 so far.

What is a transfusion cocktail?
It is a simple, grape-flavored alcoholic drink made from four common ingredients: Vodka, grape juice, lime juice, And Ginger AleSome people (like me) use ginger beer instead of ale for a stronger ginger flavor and a little more of that tangy spice, while others prefer Sprite or Fresca to get the carbonation without the added flavor.
Why is it called transfusion?
No one is really sure! Although its origins are unknown, some say the name comes from the drink’s properties as a “hangover cure.” Grape juice provides electrolytes and sugar, ginger ale provides carbonation to settle an upset stomach, and vodka provides the tangy kick.
