Colts remove DT Raekwon Davis from non-football list

On Monday afternoon, the Indianapolis Colts announced that they have removed defensive tackle Raekwon Davis from the non-football medical condition list and that he is now eligible to return to practice.

Davis has not seen the practice field during training camp because he has been diagnosed with a non-football-related condition involving high blood pressure.

Davis signed a two-year, $14 million free agent contract to join the Colts in the offseason after spending his career in Miami.

Signing Davis will hopefully help bolster the Colts’ run defense, an area they struggled in in 2023 when Grover Stewart was out of the field.

However, by joining the Colts, he also has untapped potential as a pass rusher that the team wants to unleash in Gus Bradley’s attack-heavy defense.

“I feel like it’s a good fit for me to play with Buckner and Grove,” Davis told the Indy Star during the offseason.

There is a quick turnaround for the Colts after their preseason game against Arizona, as they have a joint practice in Cincinnati on Tuesday and then their preseason game on Thursday.

I imagine Davis will likely have a warm-up period, so he may only participate in individual drills on Tuesday and may not play on Thursday.

When head coach Shane Steichen was asked last week about Davis’ availability for the regular season, he was optimistic that he would be ready.

“I hope not,” Steichen said when asked if Davis might miss some time during the regular season. “He’s making good progress, so hopefully he’ll be back sooner rather than later.”

In addition to removing Davis from the NFI list, the Colts made a few other moves to the roster, including placing Ryan Coll on the injured list and releasing the injured Josh Sills. They would also sign center Mike Panasiuk and linebacker Mike Smith Jr.
