Fourth division club Offenbach beats second division club Magdeburg in the DFB Cup

Fourth division club Kickers Offenbach defeated second division club Magdeburg 2-1 in the DFB Cup on Monday.

Alexander Sorge gave Offenbach the lead in the first half and although Martijn Kaars equalised for the away team early in the second half, substitute Valdrin Mustafa caused the surprise with a close-range winner in the 74th minute.

Also on Monday, Bundesliga clubs Werder Bremen, Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt reached the second round.

Bremen beat Energie Cottbus 3-1 thanks to a hat-trick from 20-year-old Keke Topp and Wolfsburg beat fourth division side Koblenz 1-0.

Frankfurt defeated second division team Eintracht Braunschweig 4-1, with all goals scored in the second half.

Bundesliga teams Bayern Munich, Leipzig, Borussia Mönchengladbach and last season’s finalists Kaiserslautern all beat opponents from lower leagues at the weekend to advance.

Two of the 32 games in the first round are still to be played. Defending champions Bayer Leverkusen will play away at fourth division club Jena on August 28th and Stuttgart will face second division club Münster the day before.

Leverkusen defeated Stuttgart on penalties in the German Supercup on Saturday.
