How to add a gift card to the Wallet app on iPhone

First, you’ll need a gift card from a bank or credit card company like Visa, Mastercard, or American Express. Not every card works with Apple Wallet.

1. Open the Apple Wallet app and tap the Plus button at the top right of your screen.

2. Tap here Debit or credit card. You can either scan your card or enter your information manually.

3. After you enter your card information, you may need to enter billing information such as an address. Follow the instructions.

4. When you have finished entering your information, follow the instructions to Save And Verify Your card.

5. Once your card is in Wallet, you can select it as your preferred payment method when using Apple Pay, just like you would when using a regular credit or debit card.

How to add retailer gift cards to Apple Wallet

If you have a gift card from a retailer like Target or Walmart, you won’t be able to add it directly to Apple Wallet, but there is a workaround if the issuer has an official app.

For example, with the Target app you can purchase physical gift cards for Wallet tab at the bottom of the screen so you don’t have to worry about losing it. In this case, the card will (technically) still be handy in your iPhone without having to keep track of the physical card, but you may not be able to access it directly from your Wallet app.

In some cases, you can add loyalty cards to Apple Wallet (also from the app) and use them from Apple Pay to redeem rewards and track your purchases.

None of these options are a perfect solution if you really want to store gift cards in Apple Wallet, but you can at least have them in another app.

Tips and tricks for adding gift cards

If you have a gift card from Apple or a major credit card company, you should be able to add it to your Apple Wallet. This option is more convenient than having to carry it around with you.

Of course, if Apple Pay isn’t supported in your country, you won’t be able to add your gift card. Which banks and card issuers are supported also varies from country to country, so keep that in mind.

It’s also worth keeping the actual, physical gift card that you’ve used at least once. It’s better to have it handy in case something goes wrong and you need some information on the card.
