Cleveland man dies in accident on Ohio Turnpike

According to a press release, a Cleveland man died in a two-car crash on the Ohio Turnpike in Oxford Township on August 18.

Manuel Alvarez-Loreto was killed in the crash, in which two other people were injured, the press release said.

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers Milan Post arrived at the scene of the accident at 5:46 a.m.

Alvarez-Loreto was driving a 2007 Ford Focus east near mile marker 112 in Erie County and was moving slowly or stopping in the right lane when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Ford Fusion driven by a Chicago man, the news release said.

Both vehicles were forced to the right side of the road, the press release said.

Alvarez-Loretto and his passenger, a woman from Cleveland, were transported by North Central EMS to Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.

Alvarez-Loreto’s passenger was hospitalized in serious condition, the news release said. Alvarez-Loretto died at the hospital.

Both Alvarez-Loreto and the woman were wearing seat belts.

The driver of the Fusion, who was also wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Fisher-Titus by North Central EMS and was in serious condition, the release said.

The crash remains under investigation.

The Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by North Central EMS and the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
