8-year-old girl bravely foils a robbery at dad’s liquor store by hitting the suspect with a baseball bat

An 8-year-old girl in Minnesota bravely intervened in a robbery at her father’s liquor store by repeatedly hitting the suspect with a baseball bat, surveillance footage shows. The incident occurred at Big Discount Liquors in Maplewood around 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

The suspect, identified as Conchobhar Morrell, 37, was wearing an Amazon uniform and brandishing what appeared to be a handgun.

“He put the gun on the table and asked me to give him all the money and everything from the register. I told him, ‘Yes, I’ll give you everything,'” the girl’s father, identified only as Leo, told CBS News.

The suspect then attempted to rush behind the counter during the Minnesota liquor store robbery, where the young girl was standing while the store clerk attempted to hoard cash.

Surveillance footage shows the girl’s father quickly intervening, hitting the suspect and wrestling him to the ground. The brave eight-year-old then joins her father and helps him fight off the attacker.

The little girl was seen arming herself with a baseball bat and repeatedly hitting the robbery suspect while her father tried to hold him down.

The girl’s father was surprised by her involvement and admitted that he only learned of her actions later when reviewing the surveillance footage.

“I’m so proud of her, she’s so strong,” the employee said.

“That day, I just wanted to cry. When I saw the video, I didn’t expect her to do something like that. I expected a little girl crying and screaming.”

The suspect, Morrell, fled the scene shortly after the fight but was quickly arrested nearby, police said. He has since been charged with attempted first-degree aggravated robbery. Police later confirmed that the firearm the suspect initially brandished was a pellet gun.

An Amazon spokesperson clarified that Morrell was employed as a delivery driver for a third-party carrier.

The spokesman said Morrell would be “immediately released” following his arrest.

The suspect remains in custody and his first court hearing is scheduled for Friday.
