Free agent punter criticizes NFL after “Commanders asked him to remove practice video from social media”

Free agent punter Drue Chrisman faced media rights issues following a recent tryout with the Washington Commanders.

Hoping to document his training in Landover, Maryland, Chrisman recorded the process on his phone and posted the footage on social media.

It turns out that this is not allowed.

Although the one-minute clip was well received and viewed 1.3 million times, commanders apparently expressed their disapproval.

In a post captioned “No Fun League,” Chrisman shared a text message he presumably received from his agent.

“Drue, I just got a call (from) Commander’s legal department,” the message began. “(Please) delete any social media posts that show anything from Commander. (Thank you.)”

As of Monday afternoon, the video was still available on X and Instagram, although that could change at some point. TikTok, for example, has removed the footage.

When contacted by DailyMail.com, spokespeople for the commander declined to comment.

Tress Way is currently listed as Washington’s kicker and punter, but the Commanders would likely add a natural punter to their 53-man roster.

Chrisman had previously recorded a similar video after a tryout with the San Francisco 49ers.

Responding to a fan on Instagram, Chrisman said, “What a joke they think I’d take this off.”

The video doesn’t show anything too revealing. Chrisman wakes up in a hotel, has breakfast, goes to a tryout, gets measured, and of course, attempts a few punts.

Chrisman also owns a moving company and can be seen throughout the clip hiding business cards around the Landover area.

The video ends with him coming home to be hugged by his daughter.

A graduate of La Salle High School in Cincinnati, Chrisman attended Ohio State and eventually played two seasons with the Bengals. He remained a free agent in 2023 and recently played for the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions.
