Pat McAfee confirms when he will commentate on WWE Raw for the last time “for a while”

Monday Night Raw on August 19th will be Pat McAfee’s last WWE show for a long time.

The sports media giant and WWE commentator said in his Instagram story that Monday’s show in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, will be “the last Monday Night Raw Monday for a while.”

“I am very disappointed that tonight will be my last outing with this wonderful WWE family for a while,” he said.

McAfee did not explain why Monday would be his last show indefinitely, but it’s safe to assume it has to do with the upcoming college and professional football season, which he described as great. The former Indianapolis Colts punter is host of ESPN’s weekly College GameDay show, which begins Saturday with Week 0 games between Florida State and Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland. In addition to the daily “The Pat McAfee Show,” he also appears on other ESPN programs with NFL coverage.

There is no timetable for when or if McAfee will return to WWE programming, but it is likely that he will return towards the end of the football season, around next year’s Royal Rumble, which will take place on February 1, 2025 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, the stadium he formerly played in. After being absent from WWE programming for most of 2023, he returned to his commentary role in January at the 2024 Royal Rumble and has been part of the Monday Night Raw commentary team with Michael Cole since then.

“I’m part of the WWE family and I know it,” McAfee said.

McAfee’s time away from WWE will come as the company is restructuring its commentary teams in the coming weeks. In July, WWE announced that veteran ESPN live commentator Joe Tessitore would become commentator. At SummerSlam earlier this month, WWE said Tessitore will make his WWE commentary debut on September 2 when he takes over Monday Night Raw duties, meaning Cole will move to Friday Night SmackDown. Broadcast partners for Tessitore and Cole have not yet been announced.
