STARZ previews episode 7 of THE SERPENT QUEEN

STARZ has unveiled a sneak peek from the seventh episode of the second season of “The Serpent Queen,” in which two-time Oscar® nominee Samantha Morton plays the nefarious Queen Mother Catherine de Medici. Oscar® nominee Minnie Driver (“Good Will Hunting,” “Chevalier”) also plays the role of Queen Elizabeth I this season. The seventh episode of “The Serpent Queen” will premiere on the STARZ app at midnight on Friday, August 23. It will debut on STARZ on a linear basis at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT in the U.S. and 9:00 p.m. ET/PT in Canada.

In the seventh episode, “A House Divided,” tensions escalate as Edith and her followers wield new power while Catherine struggles with political manipulation and betrayal. When Queen Elizabeth’s plans are exposed, Catherine must strategize to secure her power and navigate a web of deception.

“The Serpent Queen” tells the story of Catherine de Medici (Samantha Morton), who, against all odds, became one of the most powerful and longest-serving rulers in French history.

In season two, Catherine de Medici is now queen and regent of France, now that her son Charles IX has come of age. Distracted by the personal conflicts of the Valois children, a new mysterious prophetess named Edith gains a loyal following who vows to challenge the current religious establishment, causing tensions throughout the country. The divided court feels threatened by the rising tension and forges its own plans for selfish reasons. The Guises commit unholy acts, while the Bourbons turn to a trusted foreign ruler, Queen Elizabeth I of England (Minnie Driver), in hopes of personal gain.

As France descends into political and religious unrest, Catherine fights to hold on to her power, but THE SERPENT QUEEN is willing to do anything to regain control.

Rosalie Craig (“1899,” “Macbeth”), Isobel Jesper Jones (“The Hunger Games,” “The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself”), Bill Milner (“Son of Rambow,” “The Flatshare”), Ashley Thomas (“Them,” “24: Legacy”) and Alexandre Willaume (“The Wheel of Time,” “1899”) can be seen in recurring roles.

Based on the book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda, The Serpent Queen is from writer and executive producer Justin Haythe (The Age of Rebellion, Red Sparrow, Lone Ranger). The series is executive produced by Francis Lawrence (The Hunger Games franchise) and Erwin Stoff (The Matrix, 13 Hours, Edge of Tomorrow).
