Plot of “Dune: Prophecy”
Set 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ (Timothée Chalamet) rise to power, Dune: Prophecy focuses on two sisters from the House of Harkonnen who overcome challenges that threaten the future of humanity and pave the way for the founding of the Bene Gesserit order.
Inspired by the novel Dune, co-written by Brian Herbert, son of original Dune author Frank Herbert, with Kevin J. Anderson, this prequel series delves deep into the rich lore of the Dune universe, expanding on the novel’s foundations to explore the origins of key characters and institutions crucial to the saga.
The latest trailer explores the early years of the Bene Gesserit, highlighting their internal power struggles and strategic maneuvers in the vastness of space. As the trailer said, “They seek to serve the great houses and direct the flow of power. They must first exercise power over themselves.”
Dune: Prophecy is set from the perspective of the Bene Gesserit, a secret order of women who have developed extraordinary abilities through mastery of body and mind. As they navigate the feudal politics and intrigue of the Empire, they work skillfully to advance their own hidden agendas that lead them to the planet Arrakis.
The official synopsis reads: “Set 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, DUNE: PROPHECY follows two Harkonnen sisters as they battle forces that threaten the future of humanity and found the fabled sect that becomes known as the Bene Gesserit.”

Watch on
Max released the first official teaser trailer in May when he announced that the prequel series would be coming to the streamer this fall. While it’s only a minute and 30 seconds long, it still gave us a good look at the characters.
To be clear, the teaser looks stunning, not to mention exciting. The warm tones and classic ambient music immediately tell us we’re in the world of Dune. The spaceships, costumes, and iconic shots of the sisterhood transport us into that universe while also giving us a glimpse of what’s to come.
Another teaser trailer will be released in July, which includes the confirmed release date of November 2024. In the latest sneak peek, Emily Watson’s character Valya discusses how to control the “flow of power.” Another member of the Bene Gesserit warns a group, saying, “The more influence our sisterhood gains, the more enemies we make.”
We also see the Sisterhood’s influence on the “levers of power” growing, but Valya acknowledges that her influence is still weak. She tells her sister Tula, “I’m trying to protect the Empire. Sacrifices must be made.”
