The Beloved Mummy Mia! The franchise may not be over yet.

Christine Baranski, known for her role as Tanya, revealed in an interview that a third part is in the works. The Hollywood Reporter in August 2024.

The actress said that she recently met with producer Judy Craymer, who is already “planning Mamma Mia 3.” Baranski added, “She explained to me the storyline, how it was going to happen. That’s all I can say!”

Baranski announced another sunny adventure and expressed confidence in Craymer’s ability to “make things happen.” The good fight The star noted, “She made number two happen, and it was a phenomenal hit. I wouldn’t put it past Judy Kramer to bring everyone back together.”

Although nothing has been officially confirmed, Craymer said Daily Mail in June 2020 that a third film was always part of the plan when she adapted the musical for the big screen.

“I think one day there will be another film, because it is supposed to be a trilogy,” said the Mummy Mia! said the Creator.

Fast forward to May 2023, said the producer Deadline that a third Mummy Mia! is “in the early stages” but nothing is “official” yet. Nevertheless, she expressed her vision that it could be a three-part film series for the second time.

“I don’t want to exaggerate, but I know it’s a trilogy.”

Baranski is not the first cast member of the Mummy Mia! franchise to express her excitement about reprising her role in another film.

In an interview with DeadlineStreep, who played the lead role of Donna in the first two films, said an urgent meeting was scheduled to discuss the possibility of her character (who died in the second film) returning for another installment.

“I don’t know how they’re going to do it,” she added. “They have an idea. I haven’t heard it yet, but it’s in (my diary) and I’ll hear about it soon,” the Oscar winner said, adding: “Of course I want to do it. I think people love it.”

A year earlier, Craymer Deadline in May 2023, it is not impossible that Streep will reprise her role, which explains how much the actress enjoyed her role.

Amanda Seyfried, who plays Streep’s on-screen daughter Sophie, told Collider in June 2020 that the loss of Donna could open up more opportunities to continue the narrative.

“Meryl’s character dying gave us so many good storylines,” she said. “It was a brilliant idea because you think, ‘No, we don’t want to lose her.’ But at the same time, you have to think about what you can do. You can go back.”

While Streep and Seyfried expressed their enthusiasm, Baranski’s update is the most promising, as she said The Hollywood Reporter “It’s not like, ‘Oh, I wish it could happen!’ Judy Kramer makes things happen.”

She noted that a third film would no doubt bring joy to fans of the franchise. “This is exactly the kind of film that makes people happy,” Baranski said. “Mamma Mia has made so many millions of people happy around the world.”

When will Mamma Mia! 3 be released?

A release date for a possible third Mummy Mia! The film has not been announced by Universal Pictures.

Mamma Mia! Here we go again served as both a prequel and a sequel to the first film.

In the present day, Sophie (Seyfried) is preparing for the grand reopening of the Bella Donna hotel in honor of her late mother Donna (Streep). Throughout the film, we see flashbacks of young Donna (Lily James) on her journey to Kalokairi and her romances with young versions of Harry (Hugh Skinner), Bill (Josh Dylan) and Sam (Jeremy Irvine).

Meanwhile, Sophie struggles with her estranged relationship with Sky (Dominic Cooper) and the absence of her fathers – Harry (Colin Firth), Bill (Stellan Skarsgård) and Sam (Pierce Brosnan) – who are all overseas.

The film ends with a joyous celebration, with Sophie, now pregnant, reconnecting with Sky and feeling closer to her mother than ever before. The arrival of her grandmother Ruby (Cher) and a reunion with her long-lost lover Fernando (Andy García) add to the festivities.

The film ends with Sophie giving birth to her son, Donny, while Donna’s ghost watches over her.
