Leicester City have confirmed an agreement with Tottenham Hotspur to sign their academy product Oliver Skipp.

The Foxes published a picture of their new signing on the club’s X (formerly Twitter) and wrote: “With the transfer of Oliver Skipp we have strengthened our midfield.”

Leicester’s new manager Steve Cooper is believed to have been keen to sign the player, who fit into Ange Postecoglou’s plans due to his homegrown status.

Mail Sport had previously reported that Leicester City would pay a guaranteed £20 million for Skipp, plus a further £5 million in add-ons.

The deal comes as Leicester City are set to host Spurs at the King Power Stadium on Monday in the opening game of the 2024–25 Premier League season.

According to Leicester’s statement, the player, who has signed a contract until 2029, will be present in the stands at the Foxes’ stadium for today’s game.

“I’m really excited to be signing here,” Skipp said on the club’s website. “I feel like it’s a good group of people and a good group of players.”

“I’m sure we have a team that can compete in any game. When you look at the team you see a lot of exciting players who have played in the Premier League and I’m really excited to see what this group can achieve.”

The midfielder’s transfer is the Foxes’ sixth signing of the season, having already secured the deals of Bobby Decordova-Reid, Michael Golding, Caleb Okoli and Abdul Fatawu, in addition to Facundo Buonanotte, who joined on loan from Brighton.

Despite appearing in 21 Premier League games last season, Skipp was not a regular starter, starting five times and playing just 694 minutes in total.

Although the 23-year-old midfielder played in six of Spurs’ seven pre-season games, they were willing to let their academy graduate go.

Skipp was promoted to the first team in the 2018–19 season, making his debut in the Carabao Cup against West Ham United.

He spent the 2020–21 season at Norwich City, where he was named in the Championship Team of the Year after helping his side to promotion to the Premier League.
