Lionel Messi has been ruled out of Argentina’s World Cup qualifiers due to injury

Lionel Messi, 37, has been left out of Argentina’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers due to a persistent injury.

The star striker has not played since injuring his right ankle in the Copa America final on July 14, a match in which Argentina beat Colombia 1-0.

Two days after the final, Inter Miami announced that Messi had suffered a torn ankle ligament and would be out indefinitely.

The extent of his injury was initially unclear. Miami head coach Tata Martino explained that further tests were necessary to determine the severity of the injury.

The injury occurred less than an hour into the Copa America final, when Messi appeared to slip on the turf at Hard Rock Stadium.

After requesting medical attention, he was treated on the pitch before being substituted. Despite his apparent desire to continue playing, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni confirmed that Messi had no choice but to leave the game.

Messi, who was visibly moved as he sat on the bench, later joined his teammates in lifting the trophy during Argentina’s post-match celebrations.

His absence from the upcoming qualifiers is a major blow for Argentina, who will have to continue their season without their legendary captain.
