Tragedy over the death of a child in a trampoline park

A trampoline park in Rutherglen where a 10-year-old child became fatally ill has expressed its condolences to the grieving family. 999 officers were called to the Flip Out on Southcroft Road in Rutherglen, South Lanarkshire, on Sunday morning.

The 10-year-old was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow but later died. Police say the death is “unexplained” but there are no suspicions.

The trampoline park has promised to cooperate with the police investigation. Flip Out Glasgow posted on Facebook: “Yesterday morning just after 9am a 10-year-old child became ill at Flip Out Glasgow.

“Emergency services were contacted immediately and the child was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was sadly later pronounced dead. The Health and Safety Executive have been informed and there are currently no indications of any suspicious circumstances.

“We are cooperating fully with Police Scotland in their investigation. We are deeply saddened by this tragic event and our deepest sympathies go out to the child’s family and loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Investigations are ongoing after a child fell ill at a property on Southcroft Road, Rutherglen, shortly before 11am on Sunday. The child was taken by ambulance to the Royal Hospital for Children where he was pronounced dead.”

“The child’s death is being treated as unexplained, although there are no suspicious circumstances, and a report will be submitted to the Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Health and Safety Authority has also been notified.”
